Dide

Dide: "Nudity is the purest form of nature. Where we really want to be, is naked. Singing in the rainforest, free and exalted. One with the souls, and one with the spirit of the planet."

A forest is a forest, but some forests are different. The Holsterwold is a new forest, it was planted after the construction of the Flevopolder. Many planted forests are very boring, the trees stand in neat rows. A biologist friend said a month ago that he rather wanted forests to be planted by a drunken forest worker. In the Holsterwold you see that struggle: although the planner has designed the forest and on a local level you often see rows of trees, but on a high level you see a patchwork of different types of forest: densely planted, not planted, square groups of trees. And sometimes an atypical landscape. I had discovered a forest section that is surrounded by a hedge of trees, and in which there is a grassy field with scattered high narrow trees. It looks strange, but beautiful. The other special thing about this forest is that it is rarely visited. Many nature areas are flooded by walkers who come everywhere, but in this forest there are areas where nobody has been coming for years. On the Strava heat map (https://www.strava.com/heatmap) these types of areas are black. I picked up Model Dide at home and after 30 minutes of driving and 20 minutes of walking without meeting anyone, we were at the spot. Lots of stinging nettles and thistles, but Dide got through nicely on her slippers.

Een bos is een bos, maar sommige bossen zijn anders. Het Holsterwold is een nieuw bos, na de aanleg van de Flevopolder is het aangeplant. Veel aangeplante bossen zijn erg saai, de bomen staan dan in nette rijen. Een bevriende bioloog zei een maand geleden dat hij wilde dat bossen zouden worden aangeplant door een dronken bosarbeider. In het Holsterwold zie je die worsteling: de planner heeft weliswaar het bos ontworpen en op lokaal niveau zie je vaak rijtjes bomen, maar op een hoog niveau zie je een lappendeken van verschillende soorten bos: dicht beplant, niet beplant, vierkante groepjes bomen. En soms een a-typisch landschap. Ik had een bosvak ontdekt dat word omringd door een haag van bomen, en waarin een grasvlakte is met daarin verspreide hoge smalle bomen. Het ziet er vreemd uit, maar wel mooi. Het andere bijzondere aan dit bos is dat het weinig bezocht is. Veel natuurgebieden worden overspoeld door wandelaars die overal komen, maar in dit bos zijn gebieden waar al jaren niemand komt. Op de Strava heatmap (https://www.strava.com/heatmap ) zijn dit soort gebieden zwart. Model Dide haalde ik thuis op en na 30 minuten rijden en 20 minuten lopen zonder iemand tegen te komen, waren we op de plek. Veel brandnetels en distels, maar Dide laveerde daar mooi doorheen op haar meegebrachte slippers.
